Divorce Lawyer in Hollywood, Florida
Family matters involve a powerful emotional strain that can often times be many times greater than even the legal matter at hand.
I am Neil Leavitt, a Fort Lauderdale family law attorney with more than 30 years of experience practicing divorce and family law here in South Florida. I always consider the emotional impact on my clients while fighting for their legal rights. I consider the emotional state that both parties are in so as to help form agreements that meet their needs. It's the only way to provide effective legal counsel and representation to my clients.
South Florida Divorce Lawyer
Florida, like most states, is a no-fault divorce state. That means you essentially do not need a reason to get a divorce.
Divorces in Florida are broken into two distinct categories.
Uncontested Divorce
In an uncontested divorce both parties come together to agree to the divorce. This doesn't necessarily mean that the divorce process is a smooth one; it just means that both parties agree it is time to end their marriage.
Contested Divorce
In a contested divorce, one party initiates the divorce and the other spouse contests the grounds, or just the divorce in general. A court must become involved in order to finalize the divorce.
In either divorce proceeding it is always recommended that you have a divorce attorney representing you and your interests at all times. With my knowledge and experience as a South Florida divorce attorney, I will be there to guide you through each and every step of the process. I will be there protecting your rights and helping you through this difficult time in your life.
Handling All Family Law Matters
My years of family law experience and knowledge can also guide you with:
- Paternity
- Custody
- Settlement agreements
- Timesharing
- Property division
- Financial support
- Premarital and post-marital agreements
- Relocation
Additionally, I can work with you in making modifications to your divorce agreement. If you have undergone a significant change in circumstances, such as losing your job or remarrying, it may be necessary to change the terms of a child support or child custody (timesharing) agreement. You should know that modifications of child support only begin from the date you file the petition. It is to your benefit to act early if you cannot afford to make payments.
